Artifact--Clay Jar Top

ARTIFACT--Clay Jar Top

Artifact No. 4177

Found by IOTA on June 5, 2000.
Location: North 9/West 30, in Northwest corner of Test Pit #2.
Depth: 8.55 meters at low tide level.
Weight: 5.4 kg.

Description: A piece (mouth, neck and part of the shoulder) from an Asian storage stoneware jar, with a bell-mouthed opening and a pour brown and black glaze with decorative rows of incised fin lines.  It has four ears on the shoulders.  Based on other similar jars found on the San Diego shipwreck (from 1600), we can assume that it was probably of Siamese origin.
