![]() The information presented in this section of the website is in keeping with Special Condition 3 of the US Army Corps of Engineers Permit 960100004 which was issued to IOTA Partners on May 16, 1996. This permit authorized the archeological excavation of the Santa Margarita, a Spanish galleon which sank off the Rota coast in 1601. Special Condition 3 required the establishment of an environmental monitoring plan to examine the health of adjacent corals at two permanent sites throughout the duration of the project. The purpose of this condition was to be able to identify early on, impacts to reference corals. If further data and research correlates coral impacts to project related activities, additional mitigative measures would be developed and implemented. Monitoring include visual observations of the project area as well as measurements of water turbidity. These environmental coral monitoring/compliance reports are required to be submitted to various regulatory agencies after completion of the in-water work/dive season. Copies of those reports can be found below. | ||||||||||
